Los Angeles Farmer’s Market
City of Los Angeles, Methane Zone
Slab on Grade
Historical Building
Challenge: In July 1934, a contingent of farmers parked their trucks at the corner of Third and Fairfax in Los Angeles and the Farmer’s Market was born. Over the years the Farmer’s Market site has evolved into a mixture of open air and enclosed structures that maintain the casual atmosphere of the original market. Today the Market finds itself in the City of Los Angeles’ Methane Zone. Any renovations, tenant improvements or change of use permits bring on a requirement for a methane mitigation system. However, the historical aspects of the structure do not afford the ability to construct the standard designs.
Resolution: Terra-Petra is contracted as the special methane consultant to Farmer’s Market. We have designed unique, Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS), code-compliant modifications, to match the uniqueness of the Farmer’s Market architecture.
